Which cars
Any car sold in the United States from model year 2008 on, and many 2004 to 2007 cars: everything that speaks CAN OBD-II. An older car connects, but Baseline cannot decode it and says so.
Which adapters
- OBDLink CX (Bluetooth LE): known to work. Baseline is built and tested on it.
- Inexpensive Bluetooth LE adapters built on the ELM327, such as the Vgate iCar Pro BLE, Veepeak OBDCheck BLE and vLinker BLE, should connect too but have not been tested on a car yet. They are slower, so a drive records fewer samples.
- Wi-Fi adapters and classic Bluetooth adapters cannot be used by an iPhone app.
Pairing
Plug the adapter into the OBD-II port under the dash. Power the car on so the dash lights up. Open Baseline and tap Connect; iPhone asks to pair the first time. Keep the adapter's own app closed, because the adapter talks to one app at a time. Once paired, Baseline connects on its own whenever the adapter wakes up with the car, even with the phone in your pocket.
Several cars: keep one adapter in each and pair each once. Baseline waits for all of them and records whichever car is switched on; every car keeps its own drives and baseline.
If it will not connect
- Is the car powered on, with the dash lit? The adapter sleeps with the car.
- Is another app talking to the adapter? Close it.
- Settings › Adapter, tap Forget beside the adapter, then unplug it, plug it back in and connect within a minute.
