Baseline

Terms of use

Baseline is a read-only diagnostic tool. Using it means you accept these terms, alongside Apple's standard licence terms for apps from the App Store.

Not a substitute for a professional diagnosis

Baseline reports what your car's own control modules say and measures how far each reading sits from the limit the car uses. It does not inspect the car, and it cannot see what the car does not report. It is not a substitute for a professional diagnosis. When the car's own warning light is on, or the car is behaving badly, have it looked at by a qualified technician, whatever Baseline shows.

Estimates are estimates

The trend line and the estimated crossing date are beta features: a line fitted to your own car's drives, with limited data for your model. They are labelled as such wherever they appear. They can be wrong in either direction. Do not defer or undertake a repair on the strength of an estimate alone.

Your responsibility

Compatibility

Baseline reads CAN OBD-II, the protocol every car sold in the United States from model year 2008 speaks, through the Bluetooth Low Energy adapters it lists. Other cars and adapters may connect but are not supported. Baseline never writes to a car.

The evidence packet

An exported packet is a faithful copy of what the car reported, with the unit scaling defined by the SAE J1979 standard and nothing else. It is offered as documentation, not as a warranty claim, a legal opinion or a repair order.

No warranty

Baseline is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, its author makes no warranty about its accuracy or fitness for any purpose and accepts no liability for any loss, damage or repair cost arising from its use or from reliance on its estimates.
